About Weissburg

Most people assume the good stuff is already famous. We don’t.

Weissburg Food Co. exists to find food and drink from places that are underrepresented in Canada. Not novelty products, not vague “exotic” imports, and not random things with a nice label. We look for products with real history, real quality, and a strong connection to where they come from.

Sometimes that means a region with deep traditions and almost no marketing. Sometimes it means producers who already make something excellent, but have never had a clear path into the Canadian market. Our job is to find those gaps, build the relationships, and bring the right products here.

Why Georgian tea?

Georgia was the obvious place to start. It has grown tea for more than 150 years, mostly in the humid western regions near the Black Sea and the foothills of the Caucasus. For decades, Georgian tea was widely consumed inside the Soviet Union, but it never became familiar to most Western buyers.

That makes it exactly the kind of product we care about: established, distinctive, and seriously overlooked. Georgian tea is not trying to imitate India, China, Japan, or Sri Lanka. It has its own character, shaped by its climate, soil, and history.

For us, Georgian tea is the proof of concept. If we can help Canadians discover something this good from a place they did not expect, then the model works.

What comes next

Tea is where we start, not where we stop. Over time, Weissburg will look at other overlooked products from underrepresented origins: honey, wine, coffee, preserves, spirits, and other foods with a real sense of place.

The standard is simple. It has to be genuinely good. It has to come from somewhere with a story worth telling. And it has to be hard to find in Canada for reasons other than quality.

We are based in Kingston, Ontario, and we work as close to producers as possible. No fake discovery stories. No mystery sourcing. Just good products from places that deserve more attention.
